Basketry

Basketry is one of the oldest crafts in the world and has remained unchanged over the centuries. The technique of weaving baskets is based on textile handcrafts, mainly weaving and knitting. Only natural materials are used for basketry, especially black willow (Salix nigra). Twigs were processed in three ways:
Sliced, soaked and then used with bark.
Cut, stripped of bark and soaked together with bark coloured in brown.
Cut, dried and then stripped of bark coloured in white.
Baskets had a different shape according to type of use. Come to our basketry workshop and see how baskets are made.
